Early Years
Welcome to our Early Years Class
We are delighted to be able to offer places for children from their 3rd Birthday.
We hope to extend this to 2-year-olds in the near future.
We are open Monday to Friday, from 08:30 until 15:15.
Our brand new Early Years Class is set within the beautiful surroundings of Glebeland Primary School. We have a purpose-built classroom with extensive outdoor learning opportunities.
We work from the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework, where we emphasise that all "children develop at their own rates, and in their own ways".
The prime areas of learning are:
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development,
-
Communication and Language
-
Physical Development.
The specific areas of learning are:
-
Literacy,
-
Mathematics,
-
Understanding the World,
-
Expressive Arts and Design.
The children learn indoors and outdoors through supported play, group work and one to one work with an adult. We closely monitor the progress of each individual child to ensure they reach their full potential. We use a combination of floor books and Class Dojo to record children's progress and achievements. Class Dojo is an online tool that will allow you to see photos and videos of your child and also for you to contribute towards your child's learning journey yourselves by uploading pictures and comments.
The Nursery & Reception provision is enhanced regularly in response to the children’s changing needs and interests. We carefully plan to ensure the children are continually learning through their play. Writing, reading and mathematical skills are planned in the learning environment each week. Children are provided with many opportunities for developing their personal, social and communication skills within their play.
We follow ‘Letters and Sounds’ for phase 1 phonics learning and ‘Read, Write Inc’ for learning how to read and write. We begin with our youngest children in Nursery who learn to hear and distinguish different sounds around them in Level 1 of Phonics. This provides them with a strong foundation for the more “formal” phonics sessions, beginning in the Autumn Term of the Reception year. Phonics is taught for 30 minutes each morning and is consolidated throughout the day through provision and adult support.
Your child will be taught by an experienced early years teacher in a mixed age early years class of nursery and reception children. A mixed age early years class has been shown to improve children's development of independence and social skills and provides a seamless transition from nursery to reception and also helps your child start to get ready for Key Stage One.
